Birthdays come. Birthdays go. Some birthdays are more special than the rest. I will tell you all about my 21st birthday. My thoughts and thereafter.
There are certain days when things just turn out to be perfect even though it was not planned, not decided. Yesterday was such an unusual day. From being woken up by a person least expected to an adventurous day out with friends to someone singing the birthday song just before the clock struck midnight and the next day began, it was nothing short of awesome-ness. And yes! Being home adds to all the charm.
Sometimes you make a check-list of things you would want to do before you turn 21, no! I haven’t made mine. But to think of it, even if I had made one, I’m sure it would have been pretty boring. Would consist of the usual. The day to day stuff. It would be pretty monotonous, I would say! So all that ever happened in these 21 years was spontaneous. It felt like it was just meant to be. For a reason - sometimes good, sometimes bad. But whatever be it, it always managed to teach a lesson.
I do not regret. Never have I. Some decisions in life were my own. Sometimes I followed my heart and not my mind. Sometimes I followed my mind and not my heart. Sometimes I tried to weigh the pros and cons. At other times, I didn’t. Some decisions were made by my parents. Many of which I did not like. I resented. But in the beginning. Because more often than not, they were right. That is maybe what age and experience do to you. They teach. You learn. I’ve learnt from my mistakes. I have not regretted.
And that is maybe the greatest birthday gift. From life. As I turn the big TWENTY ONE.
